A Brazilian rosewood daybed designed in 1963 by Gianni Songia and produced in the 1960’s by Sormani, Italy. The original black leather is excellent quality and has been cleaned and treated – it really is beautifully soft. The rosewood frame has been fully restored and is a particularly attractive and desirable honey colour. The back rest with 3 bolster cushions pivots to allow full depth access to the seat for use as a day bed. The full seat area inside the frame edge is 190cm x 80cm.
The base under the cushions has a metal frame and springs and this has been fitted with new upholstery. We have also decided to fit a deep leather border on all sides of the top cover. This means that you do not see any unsightly fabric at the edges. The original had only fabric under the cushions but we think the leather edge gives a much better appearance even if it is a lot more labour intensive. I haven’t seen another example with this attention to detail. The central area of the base covering is black fabric to prevent the leather cushions slipping.
This is a very stylish piece of Italian mid century design in excellent condition.
